My Hair Extensions - All You Need to Know

My Hair Extensions - All You Need to Know

As you may have noticed, my hair has gotten miraculously longer in the past week, and it's not from those gummy sugar bears that the Kardashian's are always promoting.

Totes work.

Totes work.

Nope, it's from good ole fashioned hair extensions! I've received a tonne of messages about my hair so I thought I'd do a lil Q+A for you guys to answer any questions you may have!

WHERE DID YOU GO TO GET YOUR EXTENSIONS PUT IN?

I went to Circles in Subiaco. They are AMAZING. The service, professionalism and quality of their products are all top class. They did foils and a root fade as well and the colour is beautiful; natural looking, low maintenance and no brassy tones.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?

6 hours. I know. The longest part was actually the colour as I had a full head of foils and I had to sit for about an hair to let the bleach work. I then had a tone and root fade applied. This took about 4 hours. The extensions and styling took around 2 hours. I don't think a colour would usually take this long, but they had to get the colour to the exact shade of the extensions which were much lighter than my hair.

WHAT TYPE OF EXTENSIONS DID YOU GET?

I have permanent micro bead, human hair extensions. I really like these as they are light weight, and look natural in my hair.

My ear really sticks out doesn't it! Haha. So, these are micro bead extensions

ARE THEY A PAIN TO WASH?

Not at all. Surprisingly easy, I just wash them as I would my normal hair, about twice a week.

DO THEY HURT TO SLEEP IN?

The first few nights they were uncomfortable and now that they have shifted a little, they don't feel as tight and are no problem to sleep with.

DO THEY GET IN THE WAY WHEN YOU WORKOUT?

Nope, they don't. I wear my hair in a low ponytail or plait when I workout. I could do a high ponytail but as my hair is heavier, and I'm not used it, it hurts my head, just like it would I imagine if you had naturally thick hair.

CAN YOU SEE THE EXTENSIONS WHEN YOU TIE YOU HAIR UP?

If you pull your hair up messily and then tie it, yes, you can see them. You have to spend a little extra time styling your hair in a ponytail to make sure they are hidden, but it doesn't take long.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO GET THEM ADJUSTED?

As your natural hair grows, the extensions will become looser around the root of the hair. If you leave them too long, then the weight of the extension will pull on your natural hair, causing breakages. For that reason, it is recommended you get the adjusted every 6-8 weeks.

ARE THEY HIGH MAINTENANCE?

If you're short on time, I would say they may not suit you, as you will need to look after them and go to the salon regularly. However, if you have the time to keep them adjusted every 6 weeks, that's the biggest amount of time you'll spend on them. In terms of day-to-day care, they are relatively easy. I spend about 5 minutes in the morning brushing my hair, tying it in a tight plait and then I'm done. When you wash them you have to make sure you dry the roots otherwise they can get real skanky, but this won't take long either.

WHAT ABOUT STYLING THEM?
I love styling them, I feel like I get to make less effort everyone else because my hair looks so good haha. I love doing a high pony tail, or using my curling wand to do some loose waves. My natural hair is pretty straight so I don't have to straighten my hair. It also looks really nice when you plait it when it's slightly wet and spray it with some salt spray =  beach mermaid waves!

Being a lazy gal (I'm not really into make-up or fancy hair dos, as in I can't do either!), but getting hair extensions was way less maintenance than I expected. I'd highly recommend the team at Circles (if you're lucky enough to live in Perth) if you're considering hair extensions!
